Connect Agents to External Resources

Coming in 2027, Epic's Agent Factory will add tools for customers to connect to third-party products and content through industry standards such as MCP servers. Epic Showroom we will also provide an option for products to feature their pre-configured connectors and deliver that configuration directly to customers.

Medication Price Transparency

Epic will help reduce patient out-of-pocket medication expenses by providing price transparency into lower-cost alternatives, and coverage restrictions before providers send a prescription. With NCPDP RTPB v13 required for Medicare Part D sponsors beginning January 1, 2027, payers, PBMs, pharmacies, and technology vendors should prepare to exchange complete v13 data and connect with Epic’s RTPB network.

FHIR Notifications

Epic will support FHIR notifications for patient admission and discharge, This creates a FHIR option for new use cases while preserving existing notification frameworks.

Bulk FHIR Enhancements

Starting in the November 2026 release, Epic will support Bulk FHIR processing on reporting servers and use parallel workers for server-side bulk exports. This architecture is designed to shorten large export jobs and reduce competition with operational workloads without changing the request or response format.

UDAP for TEFCA

Epic now supports UDAP-based registration for TEFCA Individual Access Services apps. Certificate-based registration, customer-side authentication, and faster client synchronization are designed to reduce manual onboarding across participating Epic organizations.

Mobile Driver's Licenses

Starting in November 2026, patients will be able to use a supported mobile driver's license or passport-derived digital ID to verify their identity and sign up for MyChart at no cost to the patient, app, or health system. Verified identity and MyChart Central's sharing controls will then help patients access and share their health information through existing interoperability tools while maintaining security and control.

Diagnostic Image Exchange

Diagnostic Image Exchange lets clinicians electronically retrieve a patient’s prior scans from another healthcare organization, so radiologists can compare the actual images instead of relying on written reports, mailed CDs, or performing duplicate exams. Beginning with the August 2026 release, Epic will extend this standards-based treatment exchange across the Epic community, allowing non-Epic systems to participate. Check out our new playbook to learn more!

App Templates and Playbooks

Vendors can now start with 30+ app templates and 50+ data -sharing playbooks. A template link prepopulates relevant APIs and common technical settings, which developers can review or change before saving. Playbooks describe the sequence of APIs and interfaces needed for common workflows.

New Press Kit

The new press kit brings together our marketing guidelines and assets, including the new Connection Hub and Built with Open.Epic logos, to help you share your outcomes with the Epic community through press releases, social media, and more.

More Self-Service Paths

Our Private API Catalog has grown to 200 web services. Over 1,700 APIs, interfaces, and tables are now available self-service in Vendor Services.

New / Planned APIs

We are releasing a multitude of new APIs this year. These include Veteran Confrmation, 3rd Party translation, External AI findings, Ingest Clinical Guideline Content, Medicaid Application and Redetermination Interoperability, and Automation line integration for volume-based aliquots.

Kit Expansion

Releasing in November 2026, Kit's supported column set will grow by 2.5X, increasing the data available through its standardized model. Kit normalizes data so developers can build reports that transfer more consistently between Epic organizations.

Public Documentation MCP Server

Epic will publish a public Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for all documents, playbooks, API specifications and more on Open.Epic. After connecting the server to a compatible AI assistant, developers will be able to search and retrieve public API specifications, tutorials, FAQs, and interface descriptions through natural-language prompts. Vendor Services documentation and other authenticated content are outside the initial scope.
